Introduction

Hey, I'm Popful Advantage, or at least, that's what I go by at the moment, and this is my blog. :D This is just a recreational way for me to express my thoughts on stuff (primarily video games) . I'm not trying to be super objectively about the things I discuss, so I would advise against taking my posts as such. I am to an extent trying to improve my writing skills through some of these blogs (to make up for years and years of not very educational middle and high school English classes) , but that's not really a main priority of mine. I'm a big fan of video games, primarily 2D platformers (examples include: Sonic The Hedgehog , Kirby's Return To Dreamland , and Pizza Tower ), fighting games (ex: BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle , Sonic Boom And The Smash Crew , and Kill La Kill IF ), and I like the Bomberman series (I don't know what genre Bomberman fits into, but even if I did, I haven't played enough games like the Bomberman to say I like the genre "in ...

Thoughts On Some Gaming News

2XKO As always, I continue to be surprised when the 2XKO devs take a bunch of feedback from people who's opinions I don't share, and output a bunch of changes that I'm actually quite fine if not pleased with. The only change I'm upset about is assist-running being relegated to a specific fuse. The change I'm most intrigued by is pushblocking being tied to assists. I found myself opting to save my super-meter for pushblock a lot in the last alpha, so getting to use the other meter options more will be nice, and I imagine tying pushblock specifically to assists will add a lot of variance to when you can and cannot pushblock. Some of the info in this interview has me worried. There only being 10 characters that aren't all automatically unlocked, and nothing but the bare minimum gamemodes on launch really lowers my expectations of how well this game will do. I imagine similarly to MultiVersus, it'll have a big launch, but then immediately fall off in the coming ...

2024 Retrospect

Note: My opinions are subject to change, but I'm not gonna bother updating this tier list. Going into this year, I figured AntonBlast would be my game of the year when only counting new releases, and I wasn't really sure what to expect beyond that. Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle was pretty locked in as my overall favorite once I played it, it was such a particularly excellent experience, I could see myself calling it one of my favorite games of all-time. When it comes to new game releases though, Shadow Generations really appeared out of nowhere and swept the competition.

Tetris Forever

DigitalEclipse.com   I was disappointed with this collection. I expected going into it that there would be less variety in the games than the Atari 50 collection ( my post on that ) , but even the storytelling feels like a step down.

SummitSphere.com Wacky This game is just so wacky, through and through. There are so many silly things all throughout the game, like the scream button:

Steam I don't got a lot to say about this game, it's very small, but I played I think it's cool so I wanna make note of it anyways.

Marvel Rivals

Image
MarvelRivals.com I'm not gonna talk about this game as a whole. I just wanna shout-out Squirrel Girl's appearance in it because I really like her. She's very pretty in this, it's definitely my favorite Squirrel Girl design.

Balatro

PlayBalatro.com   This isn't something I played much of, or plan on playing much of, but I wanna talk about the bit I did play anyways. I decided to check it out after the Don't Starve themed face cards were released in an update (since I like Don't Starve) . The game's fun, I can see why some people get so into it.

Steam | Itch This is a short, arcadey platformer that I guess I have for. You have x amount of lives, and try to make it through 150 single screen levels.

Mane6.com My Early History With This Game I first tried this game sometime around 2022, and just couldn't get into it. I tried Arizona at first because she seemed like someone I'd like, but I couldn't get a good feel for her, so I switched to playing Velvet since I could get a better feel for her, but I wasn't having that much fun so I quickly dropped the game. Then a year or two later, I tried the game again, but this time I went Arizona, Paprika, then Velvet, and then dropped the game again. Jump to mid 2024, I just watched My Little Pony Equestria Girls , and now as both a fighting game fan and My Little Pony fan, I'm interested in the My Little Pony inspired fighting game again. I didn't have a computer at the time though, so I just started watching tournament vods on YouTube. And then I finally started to "get it". Once I got a Steam Deck a few months later, I tried Arizona again again, and this time actually stuck with her and kept playing the ga...
