The Iron Giant

This movie's got some great emotional beats and wonderfully theatrical animation. I see why it's such a beloved classic.

With that said, I wasn't particularly moved by it, and while I don't think there's anything objectively wrong with him, I personally found the main character a tad unlikable. That can maybe just be chalked up towards my general distaste for children though.

I was a little conflicted at first on how The Giant was implied to have been sent to Earth to be a death machine, but after some further thoughts, I think that aspect actually works really well with what the movie is going for. On one hand sure, people were seemingly right to assume that The Giant was sent to destroy Earth, but it's The Giant's own actions and intentions that should actually count. And besides, we never actually learn for sure why The Giant exists or why it was sent to Earth. All we know for sure is that The Giant chooses to be peaceful in spite of its power.
