The game just came out so obviously these are just my first impressions.
I was most looking forward to seeing where the story goes, and uh, whoops. I should've refreshed myself on what happened before because I only understand like half of what characters are saying. As of typing this, I haven't even finished everyone's Arcade story. I finished most of them though, so I'll probably finish the rest shortly. (Update: It's been like 6 months, and I still haven't gotten around to finishing it)
Gameplay wise, I'm don't love how Under Night plays at a system level, but I do like how a ton of the characters play on an individual level.
The new gameplay additions Creeping Edge, and whatever that A+B thing is called are neat.
I think the training mode in this game is a huge step up from before. The save state and frame data display features are really helpful. I much prefer how the training mode settings are separated into pages now. Before, everything was just on a huge list of options which just looked super cluttered. In general, I feel much more inclined to lab stuff out now.
This is pretty small but, I really like the stage/music select menu. I find it very aesthetically pleasing.
Here are my custom color palettes. I might change some of them later.
I didn't realize until I was almost done that my Carmine color is nearly identical to his existing Strange Strawberry palate.
When it comes to who I'm gonna main, I was initially planning to main Hilda, but after trying him out, I found Kuon to be a lot of fun.
There's a non-zero chance I just switch back to Carmine though.
