I did not realize this game had sex in it until right before I bought it. Typically only the characters' crotches are censored (at least on the Switch version). Thankfully, that stuff's not really a problem for me. I'm down to admit some of the artwork was hot. I'm not down to point out and show any particular images though.
Speaking of artwork, I also enjoyed the pixel art, although some of the characters' colors looked off when compared to their portraits.
This gameplay was pretty fun at its core. Especially with the speed boost you get from combos, you can go way faster than necessary, but the controls are very snappy and responsive which makes high speeds not too hard to control.
My biggest issue with the gameplay is the coins. The game is way grinder than I'd like when going for 100% completion. I spent like 2 hours grinding for coins, which took 1/3 or more of my total playtime. In general, I also just don't think the shop was very necessary in the first place. Maybe for health and damage upgrades, but everything else felt arbitrary to tie to the shop, especially the optional missions.
Thankfully the game isn't too hard, so you don't really have to get all of, or really any of the upgrades. You especially don't need all the coin drop upgrades, since they're the biggest money sink by far. I actually played through the game a second time on Arcade mode to see how easily I could breeze through the game, it only took me like 2 hours, and I only got like 6 upgrades (including Display Enemy Healthbars).
The actual biggest problem with the game though is probably its bugginess. Sometimes cutscenes play when they're not supposed to (or at least I assume at times they're not), music didn't play for possibly over half my playtime, the first time I played through level 1-3, it just prematurely ended with the ending segment of 1-2 (and that didn't count as beating the level by the way), etcetera. None of the glitches really hampered gameplay that much though, so I'm willing to somewhat look past them. This one time I went into debt because of a glitch was also just kinda funny.
2 other issues I had was that the game stutters a lot, and the game doesn't properly teach you about this walljump mechanic, so I was stuck at these 2 walls for like 10 minutes.
Strangely, this walljump mechanic is only used in 1 level, which I thought was a shame since I liked the feel of it.
I'm not sure I really liked the story. The game's brevity doesn't really work in the narrative'e favor, since I left feeling like I didn't really understand some of it. Perhaps I just need to think about it a little more though since I think I almost get it.
Also wow, that one string of text lines for the MINDGAMES boss goes on for a shockingly long time. I initially thought it was just auto generating lines indefinitely until you pressed Skip, but no, it seems to be the same lines of text every time so perhaps there is an end to it that I just never reached (or maybe it loops and I just never noticed).
