Switch 2 Reveal Thoughts

I'm surprised they're going with that name, to my knowledge Nintendo's never made directly numbered sequels to systems. It works though, this system seems really similar to the Switch, and slapping the number 2 onto it does signify to the general public that this is a new system.

 

 

Leaks

As always, I hate people that spread leaks. I've been pretty good at avoiding a most leaks nowadays by drastically limiting what I look at on Twitter and Bluesky, but I browse YouTube a ton so I end up seeing glimpses of leaks for massive things like the Switch 2.

Joy-Cons

I'm not a fan of the primarily black joy-cons. The colored joy-cons were the main thing keeping yhe original Switch from looking dull I think. If Nintendo wanted to make the Switch 2 look different, I would've preferred the dock and tablet gained color instead of the joy-cons loosing color. More buttons is cool I guess. I don't know what to think of the joy-cons snapping on from the sides now, I need my grubby hands on it and see how it feels. I guess it won't be that much of a bummer if the Switch 2 isn't backwards compatible with old joy-cons because none of the sticks on my joy-cons have aged well. Hopefully the new joy-cons don't get stick drift.

Backwards Compatibility

Glad to see it's backwards compatible with Switch 1 games. I wonder if Nintendo will make games with both Switches in mind, or just focus on Switch 2 exclusives. They've dragged out a few systems' lifetimes before, but they've pretty immediately dropped others as well. I imagine plenty of 3rd party devs will develop with both in mind. I wonder what series that weren't already on the Switch will come around to the Switch 2.

Mario Kart

I wonder if they'll call this Mario Kart 9. Since we're so early into this announcement, I get to imagine that they'll actually come up with a fun subtitle this thime. For all I know, they could count Mario Kart Tour and/or Home Circuit and call this Mario Kart 11. The game looks good, but there's nothing wow-ing about it. The track looks really big I guess, and it seems like there's more than 12 racers so that could be interesting. I like the Donkey Kong design. I noticed Peach isn't wearing her biker outfit, that's a tad concerning, but I wouldn't really miss the biker outfits that much.

Conclusion

Yup, that's a Switch 2 reveal trailer. This was originally gonna be a short social media post or 2, but it was getting too long for my liking so these thoughts are here on my blog instead.
