Sonic Boom (TV Show)

I've tried and failed to watch the entirety of this show a couple of times, I would always just get bored of it and fall off, and each time it'd get less and less fresh since I'd faintly remember more and more, so when I noticed it was on YouTube I figured instead of trying to watch every episode in order again, I'd just watch a few random one's I've never seen before. And then I ended up watching so many that I think I've seen the entire series at this point. I'm not entirely sure since I wasn't keeping a definitive track of which episodes I've watched, but I doubt I missed much.

This series can be pretty funny, and I think that's the best part about it. Eggman is probably the brightest highlight, he's a great example of a lot of fun comedic villain tropes. He's a genius that can build incredible machines, that's held back by horrible strategic planning and his general uninterest in anything not petty villainy related.

Knuckles is the most hit or miss character in my mind. There's so many lines fired from him in which the joke just boils down to "he's stupid and says random nonsense" that I think fall completely flat, but sometimes they'll land really well:

Thinking about it, this series might actually have my favorite depiction of Amy. Most Sonic media make her love of Sonic by far her most defining character trait, and I've never really cared for their one sided relationship. In this series I think she has a personality that's much better suited for butting heads with characters other than just Sonic.

I think the fight scenes are probably this series's consistently weakest point. They can be good, especially the ones against Shadow, but I found a ton of them to be really dull, and they're in pretty much every episode, which leads to there being a lot of dull moments throughout the entire series.

I wanna talk a bit about Sonic Boom as a brand, because as someone who was young enough to be part of the target demographic when this subseries was relevant (a.k.a. really biased), I can attest that I actually really liked, and still like these designs.

I wouldn't say I outright prefer them over the normal modern Sonic designs, but I still kinda think they're cool. I'm not sure I'll get a better place to mention this so I'll mention here, Sonic Boom, especially with the Wii U game Rise Of Lyric, was actually the first media hype cycle I ever got wrapped up in. And once I actually got my hands on it, I actually enjoyed Rise Of Lyric. I especially like its emphasis on co-op multiplayer. To undercut my slack a bit though, even as a kid I thought it got pretty bland at times.
