I remember playing a little bit of Pikmin 3 back in the ol' Wii U days, but I never really cared for it that much.

Recently though, I saw this tweet about Louie that led me to becoming somewhat curious about the series

 

After having played Pikmin 1 now, I think I understand the appeal of Pikmin now. I had fun managing Pikmin to fight enemies, clear pathways, and collect stuff. This probably sounds weird but, the gameplay kinda reminds me of Don't Starve.

I thought the story was somewhat interesting, with the whole movin' up the food chain stuff. I also enjoyed reading through Olimar's Diary Entries, seeing what he thinks of his surroundings, and learning about his life back at home.

To my surprise, I ended up getting the best ending on my first playthrough.

You could call it save scumming, but I used the Continue From Last Save Feature a ton, since it's right there on the pause screen.

Lastly, I especially enjoyed the little bit of Challenge Mode that I played, so I'll probably play it more in the future.
