Ruby Gillman Teenage Kraken

This movie is pretty. The colors are very vibrant, and the animation is very energetic and expressive. I don't usually start off by talking about something's visuals, but my favorite part of this movie was the visuals, so I figured I'd mention them first.

I liked most of the characters. There's a couple though like Ruby's brother and father who I'm just indifferent towards since they're barely relevant.

I wanna point out that Ruby sniffles despite not having a nose. I don't have a problem with that, I just found it mildly amusing once I noticed it.

I thought the plot was alright, albeit I thought it felt formulaic.

Pretty much all of my problems with the movie revolve around the villain in some way.

Spoiler Warning

I found the twist at the end that Chelsea is actually Queen Narissa to not be very surprising because they hint towards Chelsea being evil way too often.

I find it a little strange also that the movie acknowledged the idea that maybe not all mermaids are evil, yet they don't really do anything with that idea since Narissa is the only mermaid in the entire movie.

My biggest problem with the movie is that (unless embarrassingly missed something) they never really explain why Narissa ends up enrolling into Ruby's high school in the first place. Presumably she did so because she knew that Ruby was enrolled there, but I don't remember them ever explaining how she would've known about Ruby prior to enrolling.
