Part of me wants to just say I dislike this game (because I'm bad at it), but after finishing the story mode I just feel kinda lukewarm on it. From the little bit I've played, I think I might prefer the challenge mode stages. (Update: I played more of the challenge mode and my assumption was incredibly wrong. They're even harder than the story mode by a huge margin.)
The story mode's difficulty balancing is pretty wack though. Instead of the stages going (Easy) > (Medium) > (Hard), they go from (Easy) > (Medium with all the Hard stages sprinkled throughout).
I find the game's camera to be extremely difficult to work with. I hate how hard it tries to stay directly behind you, and I hate how it's always super low to the ground unless you constantly use hold down on the right stick.
There's a lot I could say about them, but to be brief I'll just talk about the magical spell thingy they do at the end of every other cutscene.
In the original Super Monkey Ball 2 cutscene, it's pretty obvious that they do this dance to manifest their prizeballs and fly after Dr.Badboon,
but in the remake it reads as this completely ramdom, nonsensical dance that they do for no reason other than because they just feel like it I guess.
Onto something positive, by virtue of being a remake of a fusion of 2 GC/XBox/PS2 games, this game has a pretty good amount of content. I especially like how there's a ton of sidemodes.
I know this might seem like a weird point for me to make but, I think the devs did a great job going absolutely ham with the game's pop-art style.
