Kirby's Dream Buffet

I played this back around January of 2024, and I was initially planning to write this post after completing the game, but at this point I've realized I probably won't complete it, so I might as well put out my thoughts now. This game uses a level up system for its unlocks, and similarly to Kirby Fighters 2, it gets way too grindy for my liking.

The gameplay in general alright, there's more friction to rolling around than I'd like, but I don't think it's bad. There's a distinct lack of choices within gamemodes though that caused the game to become especially repetitive to me. You can't choose how many of each mode you play in a Grand Prix, you can't choose what orders you play modes in Grand Prix, there's no option to play in teams, you can't turn off bonus strawberries, you can't turn off random copy abilities during races, and worst of all I think, you can't pick what stages to play on. This kinda thing stands out particularly hard in this game I think because the Kirby series is usually pretty decent about this sorta thing.

On the bright side, I found this game to be delightfully cutesy. Kirby games are known for being cutesy already, but I think think this game is still particularly cutesy even when compared to other games in the series. Everything is just so soft and colorful looking, it makes this game very comfy.
