I thought this movie was fine I guess.
Some of the plot elements felt pretty contrived to me, which I would forgive if I thought the movie was pretty funny, but I only found it to be a little funny, so I only forgive it a little.
The movie primarily revolves around washed up actors which I thought was an interesting angle in concept, but in execution I feel like was just floundered. For example, when the main antagonist Peter Pan tells his backstory, I felt like he jumped way too fast from washed up actor who is sad, to evil bootleg movie producer that kidnaps, disfigures, and enslaves people.
Dale in particular also felt weirdly unexplored. There's this one moment where it's not so subtly hinted that his life is falling apart, but the movie barely ever elaborate on that. Dale's very clearly obsessed with Rescue Rangers, and I figured that'd come up as a fault at some point, but it never really is. Instead, his main fault is just that he's just bad at maintaining a low profile.
Ugly Sonic appeared more times than I expected, which I guess was a pleasant surprise. I only found him to be mildly funny, so it's not really a huge deal to me, it just sticks out in my brain.
I don't know if it got better throughout the movie, or if I just got used to it over time but, I thought Chip's voice acting at the start of the movie was really flat. I found it to be incredibly distracting.
I also wasn't the biggest fan of Chip's animation style. It looked to me like he was a 3D model that was heavily stylized to look 2D, which just looked weird to me when paired up with Dale who's very explicitly 3D.
To end on high notes, I thought overall that the mixed animation styles was very cool. I also thought that fight scene with Captain Putty was extremely fun to watch.
